In this section you will find, a selection of on-going projects that the Thera Foundation has been part of since inception in 1969. Projects led by Peter M. Nomikos have focus on promotion and the study of archeology, geology, art history and of other cultural events as they pertain to Greece and specifically to Santorini. Since 2005 Peter C. Nomikos has collaborated on a variety of new initiatives including those with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and University of Cincinnati Urban Planning Department. These focus on addressing social and economic issues faced by the island and its population as we enter the 21st century. In response to the tragic September '05 closure of the Akrotiri site and the expected 2-3 years needed for the sites repairs, the Foundation took the initiative to create a virtual tour of the Akrotiri site at the non-profit Museum located at the Peter M. Nomikos Conference Center, in Thira town on Santorini. This walk through gallery allows visitors and tourists to gain an impression of the complexities and scale of the Akrotiri dig while site remains closed.
